HIKING IN THE SEA OF GALILEE

Hiking the complete path around Lake Kinneret will take approximately four days. the Hike isn’t difficult: it’s mostly flat, there is no mountain and one hill. Along the way, you’ll stop by hotels, beaches, campsites, and restaurants.

The route is marked with two white stripes with a purple stripe down the center. Some segments of the Hiking are paved, while others are left wild. The Sea of Galilee Hiking ties with other hiking trails including the Jesus Trail (Nazareth to Capernaum), and therefore the Israel National Trail (from Metulla to Eilat).

Tabgha

Your first day will ease you in nicely, with some 14 km in distance cover a 5-hour hike. You’ll enjoy the northern shores of the Sea of Galilee, visiting the various churches on the way. Be happy to wander around these sites at your own pace, absorb that tranquility and history! The hiking can start by climbing to the Mount of Beatitudes and continues to Job’s Spring, on to Capernaum and back to your guesthouse via the Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes.

Bethsaida to Kinar

You will first pass by Bethsaida, after which you find where the Jordan river flows into the Sea of Galilee. From there the hiker can go through the Bethsaida Valley, a lagoon formed by a junction of several rivers descending gradually from the Golan Heights in the east. The finishing point of the Hike (12 km in total) is at the sting of the valley at the Kinar Hotel.

Kibbutz Kinneret to Tiberias

We transport you to Yardenit – the baptismal site on the banks of the Jordan. This leg is the most challenging (some 18 km in all) but very worth it! It starts with a climb to the basalt hills of Poriah towards the town of Tiberias. Walkthrough a forest of trees with stunning views over the ocean of Galilee. The trail passes through the streets of Upper Tiberias then follows one among the streams backtrack to the shores of the ocean of Galilee and to YMCA Peniel Guest House at the northern exit of Tiberias.

YMCA to Karei Deshe

The Hiking starts from the beach next to the YMCA Guest House (a morning dip is recommended!). Enjoy the stretch of coastline and the Sea of Galilee beaches.

You will also pass by Migdal (Magdala) and Kibbutz Ginosar, where you can stop at the   Yigal Alon museum who is a former Foreign Minister. The trail ends within the Karei Deshe Guest House.
