Road trips in Tampa

Tampa, in the state of Florida, is a popular city to live in, visit and drive to other places from. It has over 150 parks, long beaches, and State and theme parks. Tampa is also centrally located and is an ideal location to drive down to many gorgeous places. Let’s take a look at few of them:

  • Panama City

It’s not for nothing that this place is called the Spring Break Capital of the World. About six hour from Tampa, Panama City is vibrant, fun and colorful. No wonder it’s a hot destination for college students. If you’re a music lover, then the concerts and DJs and parties will please you to no end. Getting here is a delight- make your way on US98 and get treated to some beautiful sights- including the verdant Apalachicola National Forest. Coastline and forest- that’s a great combination.

  • Jacksonville

At a distance of about to 4 hours from Tampa, lies the quiet gem of Jacksonville- replete with superbly maintained golf courses, an explosion of arts and some fabulous winters. The beaches aren’t so crowded, and this is a good thing because it makes for a perfect slow holiday. Hit the golf courses, take in some art and soak in the cold. This is a road trip with a few fun rides- take the route through Orlando and enjoy the amusement parks and rollercoasters.

  • Savannah

At a distance of 5 hours and about 10 minutes is the city of Savannah. Along the way, stop over at Brunswick, Gainesville and Golden Isles. Savannah is steeped in history and quaint in appearance- cobbled streets, soaring architecture and tons of greenery. Civil War reenactments, festivals of all kinds and tours can make this trop a memorable one.

  • Fort Lauderdale

Make your way through the gorgeous Big Cypress National Preserve and in about 4 hours you get to the ‘Venice of America,’ Fort Lauderdale. It’s no longer the center of all things wet and wild and has reinvented itself as a place of luxury and fine dining.

Getting around in your own vehicle makes sense. A car helps you plan your own time and itinerary. Think about a handy used ford fiesta for your trip. A longer drive than normal is the trip from Tampa to New Orleans takes about 9 hours and just a bit more. You can stop over at Tallahassee and take in museums and the Wakulla Springs. Along the way you will pass Silver Springs, Chipley, Mobile and Honey Island Swamp. At New Orleans, Cypress Gardens, The New Orleans Museum of Art and the Botanical Garden are places to visit and spend time in.
